Student Council Election by Joe Hohenshell

The Student Council elections were held Tuesday, September 8th. Alll middle school students got a chance to run. To be on the ballot the students had to write a letter explaining why they should be on Student Council. If their letters were approved by the student Council adviser, Mrs. Brim, then they were in the running for Student Council. All students voted for representative from their g5radces. The eight students in each grade that received the most votes are in Student Council. Students have to have passing grades to stay in student council. Students in their second or third year of student council are eligible to run for the offices of president and vice president. Any council member may run for secretary. Candidates must write a letter explaining why they would be a good officer. The council is presently working on "Red Ribbon Week."

Current Events & Projects by Jerrad Stevens and Elias Kibby

We are doing many interesting projects at MCMS. In Mrs. Harrison’s 7th grade reading and advanced reading class has a Pop-Up Book Project they are doing. The pop-up book is a book report where students make pop-up pictures to go along with questions that she asks them like, “What was is the best scene in the book the students read?” This book and report is due October 12th. In Mrs. Fisher’s 6th grade English class is doing a “Wall of Peace”. All the sixth graders got a question about different aspects of veterans. They answer these questions then make a different model of the wall with those questions.

The 8th grade Trip to the Wall by Shelby Garman

Just recently the eighth graders went to see the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) Wall. The eighth graders visited as a class on Friday, September 3. They got a chance to go because they will study the Vietnam War in social studies. We asked different students and teachers different questions about their reaction to the Wall. Mrs. Gaskill said that she knew all three people from Manito that were on the Wall0. Mr. Brooks said that the most emotional part was “realizing all the men and women who died for our country.” Mrs. Rahn stated that she learned was there were mistakes on The Wall. Jordan Breedlove said that the most emotional part was “seeing all the people that were crying.” Amber Autrey said it was fun to learn about the Vietnam War. Savannah Little said the experience was sad. Nick Friedrich said that he knew Edward Stone. Most of our interviewees agreed that the most emotional part was seeing all the names on The Wall. All in all everybody enjoyed their trip to the AVTT Wall. It was something that everyone will remember.
