The MCMS Library and the Rebecca Caudill Award by Eli Sanchez and Elric Gaddy
Rebecca Caudill was an author from Illinois who wrote many books loved by children and young adults. The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Book Award program, started in 1988, awards one book per year. The purpose of the award is to encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. The young reader’s book that gets the most votes from kids in grades four through eight in Illinois receives the award. To be eligible for the voting, students must read three of the nominated books. The Illinois Association of Teachers of English, Illinois Reading Council, and the Illinois School Library Media Association are some sponsors of the award. Voting takes place during February, and the students eagerly wait until March when the winner is announced. To encourage students to participate, Mrs. Hall (library assistant) offers two pieces of candy for one book read and for four books read from the list, students can attend a pizza party. What’s New by Jerrad Stevens
We are proud at MCMS to welcome two great, new ladies to the staff. These two women are the school nurses at the high school and middle school. They are Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Richardson. Mrs. Stevens has been a nurse for fifteen years. Before coming to MCMS, Mrs. Stevens worked at a Methodist Internal/Pulmonary office. She wanted to become a school nurse to be able to help children. That, she says, is the best part about her job. Being new and trying to get a routine down is her least favorite part. Although she subbed before, she is happy that she’s the official nurse now. She works Monday through Wednesday. Mrs. Richardson has been a nurse for nineteen years. She has also subbed here. She doesn’t have any dislikes about her job. She enjoys the people that she works with and helping kids out the most.
